We can’t quote you, sell you a policy, or look up your file. Here’s what we can do.
InsuranceXpert is a research desk, not a brokerage. That makes us useless for some things and genuinely useful for others — so rather than put a form in front of you and hope, here is exactly what reaches a person and what doesn’t.
What to write to us about
- 01
A correction
The most valuable thing you can send us. We publish hundreds of figures and some of them will be wrong, stale, or right but badly framed. Point at the number and tell us what it should be — a source helps, but an argument is enough to make us go and check.
- 02
How a score was reached
Every rating is six weighted pillars, and we'll walk you through any individual number: which source it came from, when it was last checked, and what it would take to move it. If a score can't be explained, it shouldn't be published.
- 03
Right of reply, if we rate you
We rate 25 companies and we don't ask permission first. If you work for one and think we've got something wrong — a product we've described badly, a rating we've missed, a policy wording that has changed — tell us. We'll correct a factual error quickly. We won't remove a fair criticism.
- 04
Citing our data
Journalists, researchers and students are welcome to use our figures with a link. Ask us for the underlying working if you need it — the derived statistics are ours, and we would rather you quote them accurately than approximate them.
What we genuinely can’t help with
Not a disclaimer — just the four emails we get that we can’t do anything useful with.
- Sell you a policy or issue a quote. We are not a broker and not an insurer. Comparison quotes go through partners, and the insurer sets the price.
- Look at your policy, claim or account. We have no access to any insurer’s systems. Only your insurer can tell you what you’re covered for or why a claim was handled the way it was.
- Identify a person or a vehicle owner. We publish vehicle and insurance data only. Personal driver and owner information is protected under the DPPA and is not something this site returns.
- Tell you which policy to buy. We can tell you what the evidence says about an insurer. We can’t weigh your circumstances — that’s a licensed broker’s job, and it should be.
Corrections we’ve made because someone checked
A contact page is only worth writing to if the emails change something. These are real changes to live pages — each one started with a figure that didn’t survive a second look.
A financial-strength rating that no longer exists
We published Empire Life as carrying an AM Best A (Excellent) rating. AM Best withdrew its Empire Life ratings in May 2021 at the company’s own request. Most Canadian comparison sites still quote a grade for it — one shows an A+ that matches no affirmation on record. We now cite the live Morningstar DBRS rating and say plainly that any AM Best figure quoted for Empire Life today is stale.
A brand we were treating as a company
Blue Cross is a licence shared by independent regional plans, not one insurer. Under the same name, the pre-existing-condition stability period ranges from 7 days to 365 depending on the region and plan. We rate it as a group and deliberately give it no company page, with the reason printed under the ranking.
A review score measuring the wrong product
Open review platforms rate Canadian insurers at 1.2–1.4 out of 5 almost without exception, and the reviews are overwhelmingly written by employer-plan members — not people who bought an individual policy. We now publish no review score without that category context beside it.
Companies you cannot actually buy from
We ranked Empire Life and Beneva for individual health insurance. Empire Life sells none — its health line is employer group benefits. Beneva’s is a group-conversion product with a 60–90 day window. Both were removed and the exclusion is explained on the page.
Where we are right now
Including the part that isn’t finished.

Before you write
If it’s a correction, include the page and the figure — that alone gets it looked at the same day. If it’s about a specific policy, your insurer will help you faster than we can. And if you just want to know how a company scored and why, that’s our favourite kind of email.
